| What a better
way to kick off the summer than to spend time at the
10 th Annual
Feast of the East Festival to be held on
Saturday, June 7th from 1 pm – 4 pm in Arlington.
RAIN DATE is set for June 8th
The
Feast of the East is a community celebration that highlights
the unique character of East Arlington and its many restaurants, specialty
shops and other businesses. All Arlington businesses are invited to
join in the fun.
East Arlington’s merchants and restaurants invite
everyone to this free event that celebrates this unique neighborhood.
Many of East Arlington’s
130 businesses will have sidewalk sales, giveaways, and other promotions.
Local restaurants will cook and serve food outdoors. In addition, there
will be free popcorn, slush, and cotton candy.
Activities
Free
activities are scheduled throughout the day, including live music, clowns,
crafts for the kids, face painting and much more. Free kiddie rides will
include bounces, slides, games, and a carousel. Pony rides will once
again be located on the lawn of the Trinity Baptist Church at 115 Massachusetts
Avenue.
There
will be live music throughout the festival and on the lawn of the Trinity
Baptist Church.
Festivities
will be celebrated along Massachusetts Avenue from the Capitol Theater
block to Trinity Baptist Church. During this event, the sidewalks will
be widened, resulting in Massachusetts Avenue becoming reduced to two
lanes. Parking will be restricted for several blocks in order
to accommodate the large crowd expected for this popular event.
The festival is a collaboration of the Town of Arlington, the residents
and businesses of East Arlington.
The concept of celebrating the East Arlington community started 10 years
ago when selectman JACK HURD brought his idea to businesses and residents
in the area. Since then, he has been very instrumental
in carrying out this festival as it has grown. This event is fully funded
by area businesses as well as East Arlington residents. To help fund
the operation of the Fox Library located in East Arlington donations
are welcome at the amusement rides and the other events taking place.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring the event,
volunteering or in participating as a restaurant or vendor please
call Jack Hurd at 781-648-2169.
